Cross Bayou is located in Bay Pines, Florida about 8 miles West of Saint Petersburg.

Description

   Cross Bayou is very shallow. You might want to make sure the tide is high if you're going to venture in there with a boat. You'll be fine no matter what the tide is if you're in a canoe or some other shallow draft vessel. The bayou does not have any "open water" and is littered with at least a hundred small mangrove islands. The water is generally clear and the bottom is sand in most places which makes it a good place to just "wade around", or practice rolling your kayak.



There are a few houses lining part of the bayou, but most of it is fairly secluded. There is also a pretty strong current depending on the tidal movement. The further you go up into Cross Bayou the more it narrows and the water becomes brackish. The bayou narrows to the point of looking more like a river than a bayou.
